MK4 2.3S

The MK4 Cortina 2.3S model is closely linked with the mk4 2.3GHIA but both cars had a different feel about them. The S stood for sport whereas the GHIA for comfort.

The mechanical differences between the two are quite subtle and limited to settings and calibrations in the suspension aimed at moving the ride / handling equation further in favour of the handling. Front springs on both are the same, where the rear springs of the S are some 15% stiffer. The S has different damper settings and although both have gas dampers the ride height is 1" lower.

The S stands out, first there is no vinyl roof, and has distinctive sporty matt black window surrounds with bumpers to match in place of chrome. Halogen driving lamps were also standard on the S but not the GHIA. Inside the car the S had candy striped seats and no centre armrest in the rear seat, the facia had a wood instrument surround not the full veneer of the GHIA. Automatic transmission was not a option on the S model, only 4 speed manual was available. There was a choice of alloy wheels though in the ford sport wheels or the GHIA alloy wheels.

Worth mentioning that this was the model that Jeff Uren based the MK4 SAVAGE
