MK4 Cortina S
For the man who wants a sports car, but needs a
family saloon!
Here's a really exciting new Cortina, which has been
especially developed for the more enthusiastic driver. it's a 4 door sporting
saloon with a high performance 2 litre engine fitted with the twin venturi
carburettor. Compared with the L model, the S has a long list of additional
equipment and sporting features It's a car for the driver who wants a sporty
emphasis in his motoring but who needs the roominess of a five seater saloon.
It's exciting to drive and has all the inherent Cortina qualities.
To start with, Ford suspension specialists tuned the
suspension to give a firm but comfortable ride by fitting higher rate front
springs, stiffer variable rate rear springs and fade free gas shock absorbers.
Then they changed the wheels for steel sports road wheels and fitted 185-70 SR x
13 low profile radials for road hugging safety. Like all 2 litre Cortinas, the
rear brakes were increased by 1" to match the performance potential.
The stylists transformed the exterior appearance, giving the
car an eager, aggressive stance on the road - even standing still! The L model's
coachline was replaced by a wide coachline treatment incorporating an 'S' decal
on the front wings. Black window mouldings were fitted, together with black drip
rail cappings, black finished centre door pillar and black mylar inserts in the
front and rear screen weather-strips. Black anodised door handles were fitted,
together with black locks, and a black finished door mirror. The back panel was
painted black, and at the front an all black grille was fitted, with a pair of
powerful halogen driving lamps, also black finished. Black finished bumpers were
specified - these are in fact coated with a fused layer of epoxy powder to
resist knocks and scrapes. The bumpers have protective propathene inserts and
chunky black overriders. Finally to complete the appearance bright rim
embellishers were added to the sports road wheels.
And as if that wasn't already a superb sporting specification
the interior was revised to make it as exciting to sit in as it is to drive. A
tachometer was fitted to match the speedometer, and a trip recorder was added.
The instruments were surrounded by a wood veneered bezel. A top quality push
button MW/LW radio was mounted in the facia and a black centre console
incorporating a highly accurate quartz clock, was mounted on the transmission
tunnel. To complement the black exterior treatment, the interior was re-trimmed
in black - black carpet, black door trims with improved armrests and integral
front map pockets, black gearshift gaiter (in addition to the rubber double
gaiter) and a black soft feel four spoke steering wheel. Nestling behind the
steering wheel, the fingertip 3 lever controls include an intermittent wipe
facility.
To complete the interior treatment, the car was given sports
style seating with unique Cadiz fabric trim and adjustable vinyl covered head
restraints. Cadiz fabric, specially designed for the new Cortina S, adds an
exclusive and exciting contrast to the interior.
The Cortina S - a tremendous package for the
enthusiastic driver.
