True estate-car practicality in a stylish new shape
The new Cortina range includes an all-new estate car, beautifully proportioned and just as stylish as the new Cortina saloons. It retains all the space and versatility which made its predecessor Britain's best-selling estate, and additionally has all the improved qualities of the new Cortina range.
There are six different estate car models, and these are detailed in the availability chart. Technically, they have the same advanced features as the saloons, except the variable rate rear coil springs have revised strengths to better suit the loads likely to be encountered in estate car use. In terms of features, the specifications of the estate car versions are identical to the saloons except as detailed below.
The tailgate is counterbalanced for fingertip ease of operation and opens high and wide for easy access to the huge 64 cu ft load space.
Cortina Estate
As Cortina Saloon, plus load compartment light with tailgate operated courtesy
switch. Rubber load compartment mat. Drip rails body colour, not black.
Cortina L Estate
As Cortina L Saloon, plus electric tailgate wash/wipe. Black load space carpet.
Cortina GL Estate
As Cortina GL Saloon, plus electric tailgate wash/wipe. Because of the folding
rear seat, a rear centre armrest is not specified.
Cortina Ghia Estate
As Cortina ghia Saloon, plus electric tailgate wash/wipe. Load compartment has
colour keyed deep pile carpeting, removable for carrying dirty loads - a rubber
mat is fitted under the carpet for use in these cases. Because of the
differently shaped exhaust pipe, the bright exhaust trim is not specified. As
mentioned on the GL, a rear armrest is not fitted.
The Cortina estate cars have comprehensive option availability. Tailgate wash/wipe, standard on L, GL and Ghia estates is optional on the basic Cortina Estate model. Otherwise option availability is exactly as for the corresponding saloons with one exception - the sliding sunroof option cannot be fitted because of the different roofline.
The new Cortina estate cars outpace all their competitors in space, features and style. They must undoubtedly continue to be Britain's best-selling estates.
