A number of particularly important features worth a special note are:
The Cortina Estate car tailgate is counter-balanced and located on two pneumatically assisted gas filled struts to make it light and easy to open.
The single piece folding rear seat arrangement allows the rear seat to be unlocked and pushed forward and down onto the seat squab itself. Once there it locks safely into position without obstructing any part of the load space platform.

With the ear seat upright, the Cortina Estate car provides 34.0 cu ft of useable luggage space. This can be increased to 64.0 cu ft if the rear seat is folded flat.
The length of the load area in the Cortina Estate car is 74.9 inches, the maximum cargo height is 30.5 inches and the clear width between wheel arches is 44.7 inches.
A wide sweeping tailgate wash/wipe system is fitted to Cortina L, GL and Ghia models and is controlled from a stalk mounted control on the steering column.

A single rear fog lamp is hung below the rear bumper of all Cortina Estate cars to provide maximum warning for following vehicles. Most Estate car models (L, GL and Ghia) have a load compartment courtesy light. On Ghia models, this carpeted area is extended to include the back of the rear seat.
An optional 'Business Pack' only available on base and L Estate cars, provides an increased load carrying capability - from 935lbs to 1216lbs. In addition to this, a heavy duty suspension is fitted. So are 175 SR 13 reinforced tyres, a heavy duty rear axle and enlarged drum brakes - all to safely handle the increased load.
