NHK 244V |
NHK244V was built by Boreham (based on a 1300L) and initially loaned/given to Julian Porter who was
one of the leading Group 1 Escort Drivers at the time. He campaigned it for a
number of years before it was acquired by Richard Iliffe from Leicestershire,
from where Chris Auker bought it in 1987. Chris was given the original build
sheets and also a spare shell and a box of strengthening plates for the second
shell. At the time it was loaned to Julian Porter it was being assessed as a
replacement for the MKII Escort although this was not pursued as the Sierra was
imminent.

Whilst Chris owned the car it was still running on triple IDA Weber carbs as it had been built, although it had originally been designed to take thee new at the time 2.8 litre fuel injected engine. All the necessary plumbing was still in place. The engine was a 3 litre Essex V6 with modified heads, tubular exhaust manifolds and was reputed to produce between 200 and 240bhp. The gearbox was from a group 1 Capri, the back axle was a 5 linked atlas from an Escort and the front cross member was a strengthened P100 one. The level of preparation was to normal Boreham excellent standards.

Chris only used the car twice (co driver both times was Simon Law) , once in September 1987 on the Trackrod Motor Clubs "Quip" Forest Rally and a single venue meet at Fulbeck Airfield. Unfortunately on the "Quip" the car left the road , rolled down and embankment and hit a tree at "Mikkolas Bend", damaging the front offside and boot lid. At the time Chris was the General Manager at a Ford Main Dealers so the car was professionally repaired and restored to its original condition. The event at Fulbeck was the car's last event before Chris was forced to sell it because of business commitments. It was sold to someone in the Navy based in Portsmouth.

The car was used on a local night rally a couple of years later and was seen again when for sale near Doncaster. At this time the car still had all the original bits but the spare shell had been sold off. It was also looking a bit tatty with some minor panel damage.
When entered into an online insurance company's quotation facility NHK 244V is detailed as a Ford Cortina Savage
